Welcome to the official website of the MBS Radio Tallships “Race Around the Island”. We hope you will be able to join us in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada, for what can only be described as an exciting and historic celebration and race. Summerside was built as a result of its good harbour, the abundance of high quality timber, and the skill of the local people to build world class wooden ships.
These wooden ships are coming back to Summerside and in a period of time when wind is again powering development in our province these majestic vessels will give us a glimpse of the past. The sea, the ship and the spirit of the sailor will all be put to the test during this 4 day event. Under the direction of internationally acclaimed race director Jonathan Harley, some of the world’s fastest schooners will compete in the first ever “Race Around the Island”.
The tidal currents in the Northumberland Strait and the winds of the Gulf of St.Lawrance will provide a worthy challenge for both captain and crew as they navigate the 360 nautical miles around Prince Edward Island. So come along Mate, to experience the “MBS Radio, Race Around the Island, Tall Ships, Summerside, PEI”.
